Microsurgery usually removes impacted, partially impacted or broken teeth and apices. The microsurgical technique followed is proportional to the location of the tooth to be extracted.
Preoperative assessment of the patient with a detailed medical history and appropriate radiographic control is essential. The most common microsurgical procedures involve the extraction of third molars.
The third molars, wisdom teeth, erupt normally after the age of 16-18 years. Sometimes, however, due to lack of space, they do not rise at all and remain enclosed or rise partially.
Sometimes they may not be present at all in the permanent dentition. When the dentist determines that the position of the braces is causing problems for the rest of the teeth or the gums, then it is recommended to extract them.
